Mountain Bike ride 08.11.2012 BT Race track, Oman

Last weekend we had nice ride around mountain range close to BT race track. We did not ride in this area (close to MCT-Quryat highway (HW) ) for quite a long time and now I know why. The construction of new highway and progressing housing development systematically tear the area apart – however there is still enough single tracks and graded roads to rise adrenaline level of eager mountain biker. We started on our usual race track – however we had to circumnavigate new fences just in our start/finish area! We followed the track till it turned into jebels but we rode on till we got close to MCT-Quryat highway close to Eagle r/a and in process we found some new single track. As we followed it - it suddenly dipped 3 meters so we were trying to improve our steep steps riding technique but I think only Greg (apart of “da leader” of course ;)) ) had guts for it. We picked valley (and another single) which brought us back to no man land away from HW. And like that we continued – picking up single tracks nature was throwing on us and enjoying more technical riding and cruising than heavy exercise, trying to climb short hills or rocks and pump it down to get some speed. One of the track near end of the range lead us towards promising valley just to find out that we had to be mountain goats to climb that wall – so thanks very much – we pointed our wheels down the hill, rode around and ended up … in the wadi. On other side used to be Strabag camp but now it is new part of the village. We picked up our usual graded track passing bedu settlement which is in the same place for last X years and we were making our way back to cars, now enjoying little bit more speed because all the time way back is downhill, right? By mistake we hit black top but that was fixed soon and we were back off road and on our usual tracks. It was quite surprising to meet in the middle of nowhere 3 people with MTB younglings. Few meters further down the track we took photo with camels and enjoyed last meters of usual racetrack to cars. Finished 2 minutes before schedule (17:00) with huge time margin to get home and ready for fireworks in the club.

Enjoyable ride, 22 kms, 10 weekend warriors, 1 flat tyre…
